In the Opera, Rhinegold, Erda (Earth Goddess) warn Wotan to relinquish the Ring back to brothers Fafner and Fasolt, the two giants who built Wotan’s Strong Refuge. The Ring which came into being after the stolen Rhinegold (natural gold hidden under the river Rhine) turn into a ring with Alberich’s craft, has a curse, an irredeemable destruction, to whoever owns the Ring.
As humans with our discriminating brains evolved to separate ourselves from this living Earth, not unlike Alberich, moved away from the source of our livelihood (what keeps us alive) and turned Earth, with its life on land, in the soil, water and air, into means to reach what our limited brains could imagine and desire to be good, essentially subduing other humans, making them work like slaves, or make war to steal other humans riches and lands etc. This interaction between humans with their discriminating minds and Earth is coming to a, as some humans scientists would call it, point of no return, where human activity puts Earth and its life on an irreversible path to destruction.
Rhinegold Farms is the owners’ humble attempt to relinquish the Ring, send the ring back to the river Rhine and surrender human intellect by not only seeing its limitedness but seeing its grave threat to all life on Earth in this limitedness. Instead use human intellect in the service of all life on Earth, not only humans, their pets and flowerpots.
Here is Erda’s warning in the voice of Jean Madeira from 1948. Let's listen to her.
